"I became a journalist to come as close as possible to the heart of the world" - Henry Luce

Samantha Leal didn't always dream of being a journalist. When she was five she wanted to be a singer. Then an ice-skater. Then a baker. Then just a cake maker. But not really a maker, just a decorator. You know -- so she could eat frosting all day.

For a brief stint, she thought she could be a princess. But after finding out that really wasn't a job description and no prince suitors in sight, she quickly abandoned that for a much more lucrative career path: a writer.

A fan of sarcasm, Samantha Leal is the online editor for Latina magazine. She graduated from Northwestern University in June of 2010 with a degree in magazine journalism (Medill) and a minor in African history.

Originally from South Bend, Indiana (Go Notre Dame!), Samantha is happy to call New York City home. Her wide range of curiosities and affinity for writing set the stage for her journalistic pursuits-- not to mention the 12+ magazine subscriptions (thanks, mom!).

Entertainment and features (style and culture) are her passions, but her curiosity leads her to writing on many subjects and in many forms. If there's a story to tell, Samantha is eager to share it, whether it be with traditional media outlets or through new media capabilities. Being a self professed "tech nerd" she is well-versed in CMS, HTML and blogging technologies, as well as multimedia editing. She is also an avid user of social media.
